Quiet floor doesn't bother me much, dead machines do, and slow cage cashouts are the real killer. That last one ruins a visit no matter how the pokies were paying. I track hit rate and volatility on everything I play, and I can forgive a sleepy atmosphere if the spins are at least moving, but if I'm standing in a line at the cage watching staff rush through everything, the whole evening's EV drops in my head even though the math hasn't changed. Funny how the exit colours the memory more than the floor does. Curious though, was it dead-quiet on a weekday or was this a weekend trip? I've noticed smaller Ontario floors feel sterile mostly because the table pits sit empty, and the slot banks alone can't carry the noise. 📊 If you go again, note the hour, it changes the read completely.
I keep my own spin/hit spreadsheet 📊

You nail it on the cage, that's the part that sticks with you walking out the door. I've been through this cycle before where a winning night gets soured by a rushed teller and a lineup that crawls. A quiet floor I can live with, gives the older machines some breathing room, and trust me the ones that used to pay felt better in a calm room anyway 😉

I remember the old slots first-hand.

This might be a dumb question but go easy on me 😅 when you cash out a ticket at the cage, is there a reason it takes ages compared to just using the machine payout? Like is the cage only for the bigger wins or something? Cus that slow teller bit everyone's mentioning would drive me nuts 🙃
Asking dumb bonus questions — that's the job.

not a dumb question at all, we all started somewhere 😉 machine payout spits the ticket or coins right there, cage is where you take the bigger tickets and get counted out by hand. trouble is when they're understaffed that line crawls, turned a nice win at mohawk into a half hour of toe-tapping for me. old slots hit different but at least they paid out quick, eh 😄

Gramps covered it well. I'll add this: what soured my visit there was watching the teller handle each ticket like it owed her money, no banter, no rush even when the lineup stretched back. You walk out with a good win in your pocket and still feel flat, which is a strange trick to pull off 😄
It's all hit and busted before, folks.

Funny how the cage can colour the whole memory of a night, eh. I track variance on slots for fun and even my spreadsheets can't predict how a rushed teller will wreck a winning session. You hit a decent run on the floor, ticket in hand, and then you spend fifteen minutes in a line watching someone count out bills like it's an audit. The math of the session was fine, the exit wasn't. One thing I'd separate though, same way I split RTP from volatility. A quiet floor is a low-variance complaint, it just sits there. A slow cage is a high-variance one, it decides whether a good night ends good. So if I go back I'll time my cashout for a dead hour, off-peak, one teller with nothing to do beats three rushed ones with a line. Anyone else noticed the machine payout kiosks run faster than the cage there? That's been my workaround at most Canadian rooms anyway.
