Is Mohawk Casino worth the drive after a first visit?
Same here, went a couple weekends back and the vibe was weird. Saturday night should be packed and buzzing, right? Half the slot rows were dark and you could practically hear your own footsteps. The machines that were running felt decent though, no complaints there.
Is it worth the drive back in your opinion? I'm cheap with gas money lol 😅 I mostly just want a floor with some energy and a cage that doesn't have a line out the door. Maybe we just picked a dead weekend? Curious if anyone else has been on a Friday to compare 🎰

Weird how a Saturday night crowd thin enough to hear footsteps doesn't ring alarm bells for some of you. To me dark rows mean two things: machines pulled for maintenance, or floor space quietly shrinking because revenue doesn't justify the lease on those units. Neither is a great sign for a place that's supposed to be busy.
That said, I'll give it this much: at a land-based joint the cage is right there, so at least you see your cash in hand before you leave the building. That's more than I can say for half the complaints I read online. If the machines that were running actually paid you out and the staff didn't fuss at the cage, then the drive might be worth it. But if I walk a floor twice and count more dead rows than players, I'm not burning gas from Oshawa on vibes. I'd want to see it on a Friday or two more weekends before judging, one dead Saturday could be bad luck, or it could be the new normal.

heard the footsteps comment and laughed, that's exactly how it felt when i walked it too. maxbet might be right about the lease math, but i'd add a third option. The regulars who used to fill those rows on a saturday just aren't coming back like they did. the machines that were lit paid decently enough for the couple hours i gave them, though; rtp used to be fairer on floors like that, but i've seen worse in full rooms 😄
I remember the old slots first-hand.
Okay dumb question from me 🙈 when people say the floor is "shrinking" because of lease math on the machines, does that mean the casino actually owns fewer slots over time, or they just stop renting the ones nobody plays? Trying to figure out if the dark rows mean the place is dying or just saving money 😅

No dumb question, lad. Either way, the casino's on the hook for every unit on the floor, whether it's owned, leased or financed. So when a row sits dark on a saturday, somebody upstairs has done the math and figured those spins weren't paying for their own spot. I've watched floors down in Windsor thin out the same way years back; they pulled the dead rows and put the decent machines together. Saves rent, keeps the regulars happy. Sad way to find out a place is struggling, but that's the tell 😉
Busted more than you've deposited 😉
OneMoreDeposit's third option is the one I'd put money on, and VancouverLocal's point about the per-unit cost backs it up. I keep a little sheet on volatility and hit rate for the games I play, and honestly the few machines they still had lit up were decent picks, good mix of high-variance stuff and steadier payers. The problem wasn't the quality, it was the sample size of machines available. Same thing happens with a tiny spin sample: you can't judge a floor off one Saturday any more than you can judge a slot off forty spins.
My caveat, though: I made the drive out once and the cage cashout was painless, staff were fine, no complaints there. But dark rows on a Saturday tell you the operator is managing for cost, not for atmosphere, and that rarely reverses. If the regulars have drifted off like OneMoreDeposit says, the math upstairs won't bring those units back.
@JackpotGuru2011 a spreadsheet for live floor picks is next level, respect. I track my bankroll per trip but won't gamble a full tank on a half-dead room 💸
Cashing out in time is half the battle.
Dark rows on a Saturday tell you everything. Decent machines or not, if the cage line is short and the floor is quiet, the regulars already voted with their feet.

Honestly this thread is making me glad I didn't burn a tank of gas on it 😅 The empty rows on a Saturday night thing is what gets me — like RTPTracker said, regulars don't ghost a place for no reason. I'd maybe swing by once for the experience, but is the drive even worth it if the floor feels dead?
