Is Mohawk Casino near Hamilton worth the drive?
A quick cage payout around 10pm on a Saturday tells me something, because that's usually the worst window for lineups anywhere. My curiosity is more about the floor itself though. How were the slots treating you, and did the place feel busy enough that the good machines were taken? I ask because a quiet floor is great for the cage but usually rough news for anyone chasing a paying session.
Volatility > vibes.
You know what surprised me, was the cage being empty at that hour. Saturday around 10pm is usually where you stand behind six fellas cashing out winning envelopes.
As for the machines, I did alright. Nothing spectacular, but the floor kept paying just enough to keep me parked. Busy without being cramped, which is the sweet spot honestly. Nothing worse than hovering over some guy on a dead machine nursing two drinks.
I've seen floors where you can't get near the decent slots on a weekend night, and this wasn't that. First kid who asks, I'd say go early evening if you want your pick of machines, then let the crowd build around you 😄
Busted more than you've deposited 😉
Everyone raving about a quiet cage, fine, but "did alright" means what exactly, did you walk out up or did the floor chip away at you till closing? I ask because keeping you parked is literally the design of the place. Cage being empty at 10pm Saturday does sound promising though, maybe I'll test it myself next time I'm out that way.
Cashout screenshot or it didn't happen.
Fair question RTPTracker, I broke about even by closing time, walked out with roughly what I brought. But the night itself was worth the drive, no line at the cage made leaving painless. 😄
Asking dumb bonus questions — that's the job.
Walking out even is a win in my books, been through that cycle enough times to know it. The empty cage at 10 on a Saturday is the detail that sells me honestly, I've stood in worse lines at smaller halls back when the machines actually paid fair. Might have to make that drive myself some weekend 😉
I remember the old slots first-hand.
Ok dumb question maybe 😅 but when you say the floor "kept paying", does that mean the slots just give small wins to keep you spinning? How do I even tell if a machine is paying fair? 🙈
No dumb question at all, kid, half the floor hopes you never ask it 😄
"Keeping you parked" just means the machines let you win little amounts now and then, enought to keep your butt in the seat. A ten or twenty back on a C$3 spin feels like the machine's hot, but you're really just treading water while the hours tick by. Nobody can tell you a machine is "fair" by watching it, they all run random, the payback is baked in over the long haul. The trick is deciding beforehand what you're willing to spend for the night and walking when it's gone, cage trip included.
And speaking of cages, that empty line at Mohawk around 10pm Saturday is a bigger deal than folks think. Turned 50 into 5k once at an old hall back in the day, then stood in a lineup twenty deep with the ticket sweating in my pocket. The old slots hit different, sure, but a painless cashout is worth almost as much 😉
I remember the old slots first-hand.
That actually explains my last visit then 😅 sat at one machine forever winning tiny bits. Good to know it wasn't just me being bad at slots 🙏
New here, soaking it up.
Little tip from the old-school grind, kid: those machines that drip small wins get swapped out once a good one hits. Watch a bank empty, then take its seat 😄

GrinderSpin that bank-watching trick is sneaky smart 😄 I tried the seat-swap thing at Mohawk and honestly can't tell if it helped, but cage was painless either way 🙏

Ha, cage line free at 10pm on a Saturday is genuinely surprising, HalifaxNorth nailed it. Most places that hour you're standing behind some guy cashing out a shoebox worth of tickets while three machines start beeping empty.
That seat-swap talk takes me back though. On the old slots that trick actually meant something, banks paid in visible cycles and you could smell when a machine was done giving. Today's cabinets do their little drip-and-take dance behind so many layers of programming that I don't know if watching an empty bank tells you much anymore. Still, cheap entertainment watching a floor from a barstool, costs nothing 😄 Next trip I'd be curious how Mohawk's tables felt on a busy night, that usually tells you more about a place than any slot session.
Been grinding longer than some have played.
Parking eating more time than the cage, that's Toronto99 telling it straight 😄 I remember turning 50 bucks into 5k on the old Mega Molar machines back in the day and still standing in a Saturday lineup longer than the drive home. Last weekend at Mohawk I fed a ticket in around the same hour, cage guy counted it out before I even finished pocketing my phone. Midweek crowd I can't speak on, but that floor hums along fine late Saturday from what I saw.
I remember the old slots first-hand.
Weighing a trip on cage speed alone is like buying a car because the trunk opens fast, but fair enough, a painless Saturday 10pm cashout does bode well for the floor management.

Yeah, Steve, so you’re saying convenience matters more than the actual odds, right? The cage moving faster just means you lock in the house's profit quicker so they can shuffle more volume around. Good for their operation, maybe, but it doesn't magically turn your lucky weekend into actual long-term profit, does it? 💸😏
Funny thing is a fast cage changes how I play, knowing I can grab the win quick means I'll actually fire bigger shots on the floor instead of babying the bankroll. Went last month on a weeknight and the floor was dead enough to get my machine, hit on one of the_link slots and walked with C$600 before it chewed it back 😅 midweek crowd's pretty light if that answers you Toronto99. Steve's right though, trunk speed don't sell the car, but nobody's ever complained about a short line when they're holding a ticket 🔥

@Provably24 a quick cage making you fire bigger shots sounds backwards to me. The whole point of a fast cashout is you lock the win and leave, not reload it back into their machines. I've watched plenty of "one more bigger bet" nights end at zero. Post the cashout slip if you actually walked with something.
Licence first, deposit after.

@Steve_Regana cage that moves does matter tho, you fire bigger shots when cashing out's painless 😅 And the floor pays, trust me 🎰🔥
