Starlight Casino New Westminster: is it really worth the hype?
Haven't made it out to Starlight yet so this is helpful, thanks π
Cramped pokies on a Saturday sounds rough, I get antsy when I can't even squeeze between the banks of machines. Was the table pit at least worth the trip, or would you say go on a weeknight instead? Cheers π
Asking dumb bonus questions β that's the job.
Went on a Tuesday night once and it was a different animal - actually could breathe between the banks, table pit had seats open, cage line took two minutes. Saturday there felt like fighting for every spin, and I don't chase sessions where I'm sweating the crowd more than the bankroll. Weeknight is the play, hands down π°
500x one day, zero the next. Classic.
ben's got it right, weeknights at starlight are a whole different animal. i went a wednesday a while back and could actually wander the banks like the old slots halls used to let you, saturdays there remind me of pushing through a stampede line at the calgary stampede, minus the fun π table pit's decent enough, but if the crowd's sweating you before the bankroll is, that's your answer right there.
I remember the old slots first-hand.
Weeknight is the only way I'd bother with Starlight again. Saturday the machine banks were packed so tight I gave up halfway through walking the floor, and I never trust a place that wants you squeezed in like that. Cageβ¦
@GrampsAllDay this is exactly it, wednesday nights are where it's at π₯ I'm on it every evening there and the banks are basically mine, walked away C$420 up on my favourite slot last week midweek ngl π€ Saturdays are just part of the ride imo, every floor in BC gets mashed, that's casino life π°
The hit is close, I can feel it.

Saturday the machine banks were packed so tight I gave up halfway through walking the floor, and I never trust a place that wants you squeezed in like that. Cage and table pit get mentioned as fine, so maybe the hype survives on a Tuesday, but a venue that only works when it's half dead isn't living up to anything in my books.
Cashout screenshot or it didn't happen.
gotta push back a little on the "cramped floor" complaints eh β every saturday night at any bc casino feels like that, starlight isn't special. i remember when the old slots halls down here were shoulder to shoulder and nobody whined, you just waited your turn and nodded at the fella beside you. that's the old-school grind for ya.
that said, ben's got a point worth taking: weeknights there are genuinely a different animal, you can wander the banks and actually read a machine before sitting down. so the OP's "underwhelmed" might just be a saturday problem, not a starlight problem. give it a wednesday try before writing the place off, young fellas always judge a joint on its busiest night π
Been grinding longer than some have played.
Maybe I'm being dumb but I've only been to a casino twice, and even I could tell Saturday crowds are just how it is. Weeknight visit seems the fair test π€
New here, soaking it up.

@BigWin_Max not dumb at all, weeknight is the real test π₯ I only go midweek myself and the banks are basically empty, hit big on my favourite slot Wednesday like DiceLordGod said. Saturday crowds everywhere in BC, don't let it scare you off π°π°
Spinning reels dawn to dusk.
Never been to Starlight myself yet, been meaning to check it out though. Nice to see the midweek crowd confirming what I figured, Saturday everywhere is chaos π
Is the food there any good btw? If I'm driving that far I'd want dinner sorted too π
Funny how everyone's arguing crowd levels while the real variable nobody's mentioning is session variance. C$420 up on one Wednesday night tells you nothing about the venue, your spin sample is tiny, you'd need hundreds of sessions to say whether midweek actually plays looser. It doesn't, for the record, the RNG doesn't know what day it is.
To answer Degen_888 though, the food at Starlight is genuinely decent for a casino floor, I've eaten at The Keg up there a couple times and it's a solid stop before you sit down. Driving from the suburbs it makes the trip worthwhile even if the session goes sideways. Weekday evening is a fair test of the floor layout too, you can actually see what machines are busy without fighting the Saturday shoulder-to-shoulder chaos. π
I keep my own spin/hit spreadsheet π

The food is whatever, honestly, but you are going to love the sheer atmosphere there once you get going. Forget dinner plans, just head straight to the floor when the banks are buzzing because the games are just too good to pass up π€. You gotta see it for yourself, massive wins waiting! π₯π°

DiceLord is right that one C$420 Wednesday proves nothing about the venue, the machines are the same RTP whether the banks are packed or dead. What midweek does change is your session length and headspace, you get the game you want without waiting, and fewer sessions ruined by someone camping your favourite slot. Food-wise skip it and eat on Columbia Street before you go in, way better value.
Do the EV, then spin.
