Heads up before you drive out to Gold Eagle Casino
Wait, half the tables shut on a Saturday? That's usually their busiest night, that's rough π
Haven't made it out to Gold Eagle myself yet, was actually planning a trip soon, so this is good to know. Roped off pits with the lights off sounds kinda depressing honestly, walking in expecting a full floor and getting a ghost town. Good tip about the pit boss saying weekend staffing decides what opens, I'd never have thought to call ahead before driving out. Question for you though, was the slot side at least busy when the tables were dead? That's mostly what I'd be going for anyway, and if the machines are humming I might still swing by. Cheers for the heads up either way π
Asking dumb bonus questions β that's the job.
Newbie, do yourself a favour and phone the front desk before you drive out. I got burned by exactly this a while back, showed up on a Saturday keen for some blackjack and half the pits were roped off with the lights off. Asked the pit boss what gives and he flat out said it comes down to weekend staffing, whatever crew they've got decides what actually opens.
So if tables are the whole reason for the trip, call ahead. The slot bank still runs fine when the floor is quiet, but you don't want to burn a drive out there hoping for live tables and find dead pits. Cashing out in time is everything, and so is not wasting a trip π

Cashing out in time is half the battle.

I turned a dead Saturday floor into a story once, spun the pokies instead and walked out ahead π but aye, ring ahead if tables are the draw.
Busted more than you've deposited π
Roping off pits on the busiest night because of staffing is backwards. Called a casino in Moose Jaw once for the same reason, saved myself the drive. Do it.
Hype isn't a payout.
Call ahead, sure, but a casino that can't staff a Saturday pit is telling you something about the place, isn't it π Been in plenty of halls where weekend nights were the one shift they never shorted. The old slots hit different though, so if the tables are dark I just find a machine and let the night sort itself out.
It's all hit and busted before, folks.
GoldenGirl, every old hall I've known kept the Saturday shift sacred, so I'm with you there. Maybe Gold Eagle just knows its crowd better? π
I remember the old slots first-hand.
Yikes, dark pits on a Saturday sounds dead π
I'd be calling before wasting the drive, don't trust the website pics at all lol

Roped-off pits with the lights out on a Saturday, that's a new one on me. Been through this cycle before though, plenty of small halls out here do the same dance, website photos taken on their one good night of the year π
GrinderSpin, maybe they do know their crowd, but I'd bet my last loonie the crowd they know is the slot crowd, not the table crowd. And hey, nothing wrong with that, I've turned a quiet night on the pokies into a decent cage cashout more than once when the pits went dark on me. Old slots used to pay different, mind, but a quiet floor with a working machine beats a packed pit any day. Still, if tables are the whole reason for the drive, that phone call is the cheapest insurance you'll ever buy.
I remember the old slots first-hand.
Maybe I'm being dumb but I always figured a Saturday floor would be fully lit π
Good heads up though. If I ever make the drive I'm phoning first, worst case I just stick to the pokies and call it a night π
New here, soaking it up.
phone call first, always. turned 50 into 5k once on a half-lit floor years back, so don't let the dark pits scare you off entirely π
I remember the old slots first-hand.
Phone-first is the right call, JoshLuck. One nuance though: a half-dead floor doesn't change the math on the pokies, the RTP and hit rate are whatever the machine pays whether the pits are lit or not. Your real risk on a quiet Saturday is a thin comps programme and slow service, not variance. NearMissGate's C$50-to-5k night was luck, plain and simple, so go expecting a session budget, anything more is a bonus. π
