Went to Gold Horse for my first land-based visit last week and the floor setup threw me off a bit 😅 I picked a pokie right by the cage exit thinking cashing out would be quick, then stood up and realised a pillar plus a wall of high-back machines blocks the whole view, and the shortest walk to the cage loops all the way around the bank. Is that deliberate design or just bad planning? Asking seriously because it felt sneaky 🤔

yikes, i saw that design thing happen once and it made me step away from the machine a bit, honestly. you assume you're going to a spot to get some time away and then the environment just tricks you into an awkward walk instead of a smooth cashout. you’ve probably seen bigger hits than that one, but even when the reels are paying, a crappy layout ruins the vibe.
It's all hit and busted before, folks.

Wait, so the cage is literally hidden from the closest machines? 😅 That seems backwards. Is that a normal thing on casino floors, the banks near the cage being arranged so you can't see it, or did Gold Horse just do something weird here? Genuinely asking, I've only ever seen it the other way 🤔

It's a design trick, Sam. The cage being the bright spot they want you pointed at... except on some floors the banks near it are built so you're tucked in, backs high, pillars in the way, and your eye never lands on the exit. They'd rather you sat through another dozen spins thinking "cashout can wait, I'm comfy here" than watching people walk off with their winnings every few minutes. Older joints used to plonk the cage right in your eyeline, rtp used to be fairer too, maybe the two went together 😄 Happened to me the same way once. Turned 50 into 5k on the old reel spinners, stood up all chuffed, and realised the walk to the cage looped me past half a floor of machines I hadn't touched yet. Sat back down "just for one more". You can guess how that ended. So Gold Horse isn't doing anything weird, they're just doing it better than most. Welcome to land casinos, mate, the floor always knows a bit more than you do 😉
Busted more than you've deposited 😉

Honestly, that setup is unnecessarily obtuse. You see it as a simple design trick, but it really just looks like poor operational planning. Having the shortest path to the cage be the longest one is a pretty silly way to manage floor traffic and the customer's journey. When they prioritize maximizing machine density over basic common sense layout, it affects the entire experience regardless of whether you hit a big win.
Hype isn't a payout.

That stupid pillar blocking the view of the cage is just so awkward when you're ready to cash out 🤦‍♂️. It makes sense that people think it's poor planning, since the shortest way to get your money is actually way longer. Gotta loop all the way around the block just to get processed. Thanks so much for everyone chatting about this, that helps me understand why the layout is so messed up! 🙏
