That under-five-minute cage payout at 11 pm on a Friday is the part I zero in on, because Friday night cages elsewhere can be a queue half an hour deep. Two windows open and no line worth complaining about sounds like decent staffing. Was the floor busy enough that the slots felt dead or still paying out, from your read of it?
RTP is a long-run number.

Under five minutes on a Friday, now that's a treat. I've stood in cage lines longer than some of my sessions 😄 funny how the old slots hit different when you're not sour from a twenty minute wait to cash out. staffing properly on a busy night, what a novel idea. might have to swing through there myself someday.
It's all hit and busted before, folks.

Fair enough, and I'd want that payout speed on a screenshot too. Two windows at 11 pm with no queue is staffing done right, BC venues could all take notes.
Cashout screenshot or it didn't happen.

Wait, under five minutes at 11 on a Friday? I've done the New West drive thinking the cage would be a slog and skipped it for that reason 😅 Sounds like I just picked bad nights. Good staffing really does change the whole mood of a floor, going to give Starlight another shot 🙌

Okay this thread got me curious 😅 quick question maybe I'm being dumb here but what does "cage" mean exactly? Is that just the cashier desk where you swap chips and get your cash? Never been to a land place yet, only seen it in threads 🙈 going by this I should hit Starlight on a Friday if I ever make it out west?

Not a dumb question at all, kid, we all started somewhere 😄 yeah, the cage is just the cashier desk where you cash in your chips or ticket and walk out with real money. At Starlight the other night it meant I handed over my ticket at one of those two open windows and had my cash in hand in under five minutes, no queue, no fuss. Old-school term from the days when they literally kept the cash in a cage, and the ones that used to pay quick at the cage were always the ones worth the drive.
I remember the old slots first-hand.

RngGod, GrinderSpin nailed it, that's the cashier window. My two cents on the payout speed, fast cages tell you something about the whole operation. When I sat down at a slot after cashing out I noticed the floor never felt like it was hustling anyone, which tracks with a venue that staffs properly. Bad nights happen everywhere though, one packed long weekend can wreck the best staffing plan, so on a small sample of visits I'd keep expectations loose.

Five minutes at the cage on a Friday reads nice, but one good night proves one good night. Crowd level, staffing, even mood shifts week to week, so I'd want the same result two or three visits before calling it a well-run floor. Who actually got paid besides the OP here? Screenshots of a ticket stub mean more than vibes.

BankrollHunter, your sample size complaint is fair, though I'd frame it differently. One visit tells you almost nothing about long-run operation, sure, but the 11 pm detail carries more weight than a random afternoon would. Late Friday is peak demand, that's when staffing gets tested. If they keep two windows open when the floor is at its busiest, that's a staffing decision, not luck. A quiet Tuesday payout proves nothing, a peak-hour payout proves the schedule was built properly. My own add is the crowd point. A packed floor that never feels cramped usually means someone did the math on machine spacing and pit layout, and venues that plan like that tend to plan the cage the same way. I'd still take your two or three visits before crowning it, but I'd bet on repeat results rather than against them 📊

Everyone's grading a cage like it's an audit, I just want to know if the machine that ate my C$20s all night was at least honest. Two windows open at 11 pm is fine, but Friday crowds in New Westminster aren't exactly hockey playoffs either. Go back on a pay-night Saturday and tell me if it's still five minutes.
Hype isn't a payout.

VancouverHQ has a point about sample size, but the 11 pm detail is the part I keep coming back to. Peak demand is exactly when a cage either shows its staffing or falls apart, and under five minutes there means something. One visit won't give you a reliable mean, but it's a better data point than a Tuesday afternoon lull. Funny thing is, the cage and the slots run on opposite logics. A payout speed is almost deterministic, it's staffing and process, repeatable if the venue bothers. A machine that ate your C$20s all night? That's variance doing its job, and no honest floor can fix that for you. Your spin sample from one evening is tiny, so "honest" versus "cold night" is unknowable from where you sat. I'd take the same slot across two or three visits before filing a complaint. Meanwhile I'll happily judge the cage on one Friday, because queues don't have volatility. 📊
Volatility > vibes.
