Only been to a land casino a couple times myself and the loonies going that fast is way too relatable πŸ˜… was it one of the machines near the entrance? Those always feel hungry to me. Kinda love that the cage line was short though and the cashier joked about your cash-out. Last time I cashed out a tiny ticket the person at the cage just slid it back with a straight face, no banter at all. A little joke makes swallowing the loss easier honestly lol. Does Grand Villa get busy on Saturdays or was it actually chill on the floor?

ha, the entrance machines are exactly the hungry ones, they're set there to greet you like a doorman πŸ˜„ i never learn either. grand villa's floor is decent enough though, and that cashier with a sense of humour at the cage is worth more than any payout, honestly. turned a small cashout into a good walk to the lot myself once, beauty feeling

The hungry entrance machines are a real pattern, Sam, and not just folklore. Casinos put the flashiest, highest-denomination-looking units where foot traffic is heaviest, and those cabinets tend to be the high-volatility ones. High volatility means long dead stretches punctuated by the occasional hit, so your loonies vanish in bursts and the average player walks away convinced the machine "eats". Meanwhile the ones tucked deeper on the floor feel friendlier partly because a lower-volatility game pays small hits often enough to keep you fed. Same RTP in theory, completely different session experience. Your spin sample in one Saturday evening is tiny anyway, so any single machine can look like a monster or a goldmine. Grand Villa's floor has felt the same to me on my visits, decent spread without being overwhelming, and a short cage line is genuinely underrated. Nothing sours a session like queueing for twenty minutes to collect pocket change.
Volatility > vibes.

What is 'high volatility' again? πŸ˜… Is it just about how big the wins are, or is it something else?

volatility just means how the machine pays out, diva. high vol ones go dead for ages then maybe spit something big, low vol dribbles small wins back at you. the entrance cabinets at grand villa are the drought-then-flood type, like the old slots used to be. my saturday next to that hungry one was all drought, no flood πŸ˜„
I remember the old slots first-hand.

a cashier joking about your cashout is the real loyalty program, eh. i've walked out of grand villa with pocket change and a better mood than some big wins gave me πŸ˜‰

The whole volatility discussion is basically just the language they use to mask the house edge, making the rapid rate of loss seem like a high-stakes thrill. A joke from the cashier certainly makes the exit less painful, I'll give you that, but it doesn't alter the mathematical reality of those hungry machines in Burnaby.

RTPTracker, mate, you're not wrong about the house having its thumb on the scale, but saturday night at grand villa the cage was the best part of my trip, and i'll tell you why. line was barely three deep, cashier looks at my modest little cashout, grins and says something like "big spender, eh" and honestly it landed better than most wins did that evening. turned a rough session into a decent walk to the parking lot πŸ˜„ that's the thing a screen can't give you. online you bust quietly and nobody knows. on the floor the machine next to you ate my loonies fast enough that i could've been feeding a wood chipper, but the guy two seats over groaned out loud when his bonus round died on the first pick, and we had a laugh about it. greed hurts more in company, and it heals faster too. old slots used to pay fairer, sure, but the room itself earns back a bit of what the reels take.
I remember the old slots first-hand.

RTPTracker has a point, the "high volatility" talk is mostly a cushion for a slow bleed, I've fed enough machines at Grand Villa to know that. Still, oneCaveat: land venues are regulated by BC gaming rules, so the machines aren't quite as gamed as the paranoia here suggests. My last visit the cage cashier counted out a tiny cashout without a smirk, which honestly felt more professional than friendly, ha.

Go easy on me, never been inside Grand Villa yet but the cashier cracking a joke about a tiny cashout sounds like my kind of place πŸ˜… maybe next Saturday I'll find out how hungry those machines are.
