First walk into Pickering Casino Resort: worth the trip from Toronto?
Glad someone finally posted about Pickering, I've been curious since it opened. The floor being bigger than expected with that long table run near the entrance sounds promising, though on a small visit sample the layout can trick you. Did you get a feel for how the slots were paying, and was the crowd manageable on a weekend? 📊

turned 50 into 5k once at an old-school joint in the niagara days and i still judge floors by how fast you find the cage, eh. nick's right that first impressions can trick you, but that long table run at pickering before you hit the slots? felt properly organized to me. cage on the way out is just good manners from whoever designed it.
I remember the old slots first-hand.
Easy cage access is nice but I trust a visit by the payout line, not the layout. Anyone actually cashed out there, got a screenshot from the cage?
how much does the sheer size of those new builds really change the feel, eh? i remember back when i hit up some old joints in the niagara area, they'd be smaller but you could tell where the action was from the door. the way the tables lined up right there near the entrance at pickering, before you even get to the pokies, felt proper sprawling. guess the modern ones have gotta give the folks more room to shuffle their chips around, i suppose 😄.
Busted more than you've deposited 😉
okay dumb question maybe 😅 what counts as the payout line? is that just how long the cage queue gets on a busy night?

You got it mostly right, SamCalgary. It's just how fast the cage queue moves on a busy night, that's your payout line. If they're paying quick when folks actually cash out, the place is doing it right. My cage run at Pickering moved along fine, no complaints 😄
Been grinding longer than some have played.
Cage being easy to find is underrated, I hate wandering after a win 😄 I went at night, tables near the entrance looked alive but the slot bank felt quiet.

Been up there a few times myself since I work out that way some weeks. WildWin's got it right about the slot bank feeling quiet at night, I found the same. That long run of tables near the door pulls the energy toward the entrance and the machines back there kind of sit in a dead zone, at least on my visits. Didn't bother me much though, fewer bodies means fewer shoulders in your back while you're spinning 😄
Cage on the way out is a small thing but it's a good thing. I remember the old rooms where you'd cash your chips and then wander ten minutes looking for the exit like a lost toque. Pickering got that part right, straight line from floor to door. AGCO runs the licence out there same as the rest of Ontario, for whoever was wondering. Worth the drive from Toronto? For a table night, sure. If you live off the reels like me, the floor's roomy but the machines don't pay like the ones used to, nothing new there 😉

Same about the quiet slot bank when I went, a bit dead for my taste 😬 But the tables right by the entrance surprised me too, and the cage was easy to spot on the way out. Cheers for confirming, that helps 🙏

know the feeling, back in my day the slots near the entrance used to hum all night, now half these places keep the life at the tables and let the reels sit quiet 😄 did any of you actually hit a decent run on that slot bank or is it one of those floors where the paying machines live further back? funny thing is a quiet bank sometimes means the busy crowd hasn't found them yet, been through this cycle before.

Same, went on a Saturday night and the slot bank was half dead 😅 but the cage on the way out saved me the walk, easy in easy out.

Made the drive from Calgary to visit family out that way and stopped in once, and yeah that table run near the door caught me off guard too. Didn't expect Pickering to put the tables that far forward, felt more like a downtown floor than a suburb one. Cage right on the exit path is the bit I appreciated most, no wandering around with a ticket in your hand wondering where you cash out 😉

Funny how everyone remembers the same two things about that place, the table run up front and the cage right where you exit. My two cents as the variance nerd of this thread: judge a floor on how it plays over several visits, and one quiet slot bank on a Saturday tells you very little on a small spin sample. For a drive from Toronto I'd say it earns the trip, at least until someone reports the back rows actually paying.

@GrinderSpin nah, even when it's quiet, my machine went absolutely berserk last night! Still an all-time favourite place, don't let the lulls get ya down! 🔥💰
Backing my slot to the last spin.
