Is Grand Villa Casino in Burnaby actually worth the trip?
Honest question from a newbie here π only been inside a real casino a couple times so go easy on me lol
Was thinking of taking the SkyTrain out to Grand Villa myself since it's basically in my backyard. You're saying the slot floor felt cramped and dated?? That's kinda disappointing to hear π I pictured something bigger for a Burnaby spot. And the table crowd was that bad even on a Saturday? Like couldn't get near a blackjack table or just hard to find a seat?
Also dumb question but cashing out at the cage there, is it a whole wait-in-line thing on weekends? Because if it's packed like you say I'm guessing the cage line is rough too π
thanks in advance, that helps me decide if the trip is worth it or if I just skip it π

Cramped and dated is exactly how I'd put it too. The slot floor layout makes zero sense - machines packed shoulder to shoulder, and on a Saturday you're basically breathing on the person next to you while you spin. Nothing wrong with older cabinets if they pay, but half of them looked tired and nobody around me was winning much.
One thing I'll say in its defence: cashing out at the cage was painless, no lines that night, and the staff weren't pushy. If you're out that way anyway on the SkyTrain, fine, go look yourself, just don't budget a whole evening around it. And hey, keep the realistic expectations at the door: the house edge doesn't care how new the carpet is.

turned 50 into 5k on a saturday grind once, and i'll tell ya - half of that was having room to breathe and read the machines. grand villa squeezes you in like they're paying rent per square foot π still, newcomer lad, worth the skytrain for a look, just go on a weeknight, tables are gentler and you can actually reach a cabinet. the cage has always been quick when i've cashed out there, i'll give it that.
Busted more than you've deposited π
I'll second VancouverLocal416 on the weeknight tip, WildWin, Saturday crowds at Grand Villa turn the floor into a shuffle you don't enjoy. What bothers me more than the cramped layout is that a tight, dated room makes it harder to read the machines and pace your session, and pacing is half of keeping your losses sane. Worth one SkyTrain trip to judge for yourself, just go Tuesday.
Volatility > vibes.
Room to read the machines? the old slots hit different, sure, but anyone blaming the layout for their session... been through this cycle before, it's the machine that pays or doesn't π
I remember the old slots first-hand.
Okay dumb question from me π
when Gramps says "read the machines" - what does that even mean, like watching if a slot is paying before you sit? Cheers, that helps if anyone explains π

haha good question lad. it's mostly just watching a machine's mood before you commit. Does it seem dead all night, is someone grinding it with no return, that kind of feel. honestly though gramps has a point, slots pay when they pay and no amount of staring helps. at grand villa the real problem is you can barely get near half the floor on a saturday to try anyway π
I remember the old slots first-hand.
Honestly I just like that people actually explain stuff here π OneMoreDeposit that makes sense, thanks! My worry about Grand Villa is the same as the OP, if the floor is that cramped and dated on a Saturday, I'd feel too squished to even sit and get a feel for a machine. Is it any better near the tables side or is the whole room tight? π€

turning 50 into 5k once on a floor half the size of a corner store, so cramped and dated doesn't scare me much π
ToqueNorth, honestly the crush on a Saturday is part of the deal anywhere in the lower mainland. If you want quiet space to "read" machines, you go on a Tuesday afternoon, not prime time. And OP, dated-looking slots? some of those old-school grinders still pay better than the shiny new cabinets with all the bells and lights. But fair point on the tables, if you can't even get a look in, that's a legit gripe, no arguing there.
I remember the old slots first-hand.
haha GrinderSpin, turning 50 into 5k on a shoebox floor, those were the old-school grinds alright, and the old slots hit different, I'll give you that π but I'll poke at your Tuesday afternoon wisdom a bit.
sure, a quiet floor helps you read a machine, but does it help if the machines themselves are tired? my worry with Grand Villa is that you show up Tuesday, get all the elbow room you want, and the reels still feel like they've been running since the Olympics were in town. cramped and dated on a Saturday might just mean the place is alive; dated on a Tuesday might mean it's just dated. Toronto99 asked about the cage too, from what I've seen on a busy night the lineup moves but you're queuing with everyone who just busted, so plan your exit before the crowd all cashes out at once π
Been grinding longer than some have played.
Good point from both sides honestly π
I've only done weekends so far, never thought a quiet Tuesday would change how a floor feels. Might test that myself before writing the place off π

GrinderSpin, that 50 into 5k story's getting a workout in this thread lol. I'll needle you a bit though, Tuesday afternoon quiet cuts both ways, my friend. Half those machines are dead on a Tuesday, and the paying ones somehow know the crowd's gone home. Turned 200 into a nice little score at the cage one busy Saturday years back, elbowing around like everyone else. Sometimes the crush is where the money is π
I remember the old slots first-hand.
I've never been but maybe I'm being dumb - is the Saturday crowd actually worse than River Rock on a weekend? π
Might just try a weekday trip like you said π
New here, soaking it up.
Max, no such thing as a dumb question here kid π Saturday at Grand Villa gets busy but I've seen worse zoo days at River Rock, honestly. And NearMissGate has a point about dead machines on a Tuesday, though I turned a quiet weekday lull into a decent run once, so who's to say. Try both, cheap bus fare either way.
It's all hit and busted before, folks.

@GoldenGirlSpins good to know it's not always a zoo π I've only done online stuff so far, is the weekday crowd mostly slots or are tables decent midweek too?

@GoldenGirlSpins that gives me hope for a weekday run then π
I've only ever played at the tables so I'm curious if the floor feels less cramped midweek too. cheers, that helps π

@BigWin_Max Saturday there gets crowded but River Rock weekends are worse, no comparison. Weekday trip is the smarter play anyway, more space on the floor.
