Hmm, that slow cage thing would drive me nuts 😅 I've only been playing a few months so maybe I'm being dumb, but if there's one window open on a Saturday night with a line building, that kinda kills the whole vibe of the trip. Like you're up and just want to cash out at the cage, and suddenly you're standing there forever watching half the floor sit dead around the pokies. Question for those who've been: is the cage usually that slow there even on weeknights, or was it just a bad Saturday? And do they have any minimum withdrawal at the cage or can you take out whatever you've got? Still learning the land-based side of things, online is all I knew before 🙏
New here, soaking it up.

you're not being dumb at all, mate, that's the oldest trick in the book 😄 i turned 50 into 5k once on the old-school grind machines, then queued 25 minutes at a cage with one window open and felt like they'd already won it back. small-town floors run lean staffing on saturdays because most folks just reload and keep spinning anyway, they know the line hurts more than an empty seat ever will. still, i'd give gold eagle another shot on a weeknight if i were you. the floor's the same, the pokies don't care what day it is, and the cage window's usually got two open. saturday's for the tourists and the stag parties; the patient money goes tuesday 😉 if the vibe still feels flat midweek, then write it off, no harm done.
Busted more than you've deposited 😉

Max has got it right, the cage kills the vibe. Something similar happened to me at a smaller floor out here: hit a decent run on the pokies, went to cash out, and by the time I reached the window half the good feeling had evaporated. There's a variance angle to this nobody talks about: a slow cage doesn't change your expected value, but it changes your behaviour. You stand in line, you're holding the ticket, and some people wander back to the machines "for one more spin" while they wait. That's the house winning the waiting game, exactly like Local416 described. On the floor half-empty while one window runs: that's the part I'd weigh before deciding on the drive. A dead Saturday night floor tells you something about their staffing priorities, and it won't be different next visit. I judge a land-based place by the worst part of the trip, since that's the memory you drive home with.
Volatility > vibes.

Wait, do the cages usually hold your payout if the line's that long, or do they just make everyone wait? 😅 Might drive me crazy standing there with cash in hand 🙈

nobody holds your payout, kid. The cash sits in the machine's till until you get to the window, so the line just makes you stand there with your ticket like a fool 😄 i did the same dance at Gold Eagle, cashed a decent hit on the pokies and spent half my winner's glow watching one poor soul count out cheques. they know most blokes get impatient and wander back to the floor, the old slots hit different but the cage games never change.
I remember the old slots first-hand.

Gramps is right about the ticket, but here's my caveat: that standing-around time is exactly when people wander back to the pokies and feed the winnings back in. Watched a guy ahead of me at Gold Eagle do precisely that. One window on a Saturday while half the floor sits empty tells you where the priority is. No payout in hand, no proof it was ever a good night.

that's the oldest trick in the book, feeding it back while you wait eh. i've turned 50 into 5k once and then watched half of it crawl back into the machines during a cage line just like that one. my rule now is simple: ticket in the pocket, walk straight past the pokies, cash out first and only then decide if i'm giving it back on purpose 😄

@OneMoreDeposit_FC 5k down to half during a cage line hurts just reading it 😭 I haven't had a win like that yet (my deposits are student-sized lol) but I can see myself doing the exact same thing. Gonna steal the ticket-in-the-pocket rule for my next trip out there. Do you cash out right away every time now, even small hits?

That feeding-it-back thing is so real 😅 I'd probably do the same standing in line with a ticket in my hand. My verdict after my own trip there: floor's fine for a small place, but one cage window on a Saturday night is a weird call. Still worth the drive once in a while, just cash out early before the line forms 🙏

haha the cage line trap is so real 😂 i play online mostly so no line for me, but my rule is same either way, big win hits and i cash the whole thing, not just half. temptation sitting in your balance is the killer ngl. worth the drive tho? for a saturday arvo with the boys, yeah i'd do it 🎰
The hit is close, I can feel it.

The hit is close, I can feel it.
