Is Gateway Casino actually worth the drive, or is it all hype?
Went to Gateway a few weekends back myself and honestly the floor was decent, tables were busy but not packed, slots paying ok for a bit then dead for me π
But yeah that cage line on a Saturday was rough. Slower than the drink girls making rounds, which kinda says everything about where they put their staff. I just kept thinking, what if you actually hit something decent and gotta wait half an hour to cash a cheque? Would I drive out again? Probably on a weeknight. Saturday? Nah. Anyone know if Sundays are quieter there? π€
Asking dumb bonus questions, that's the job.
The cage line being slower than drink service is the whole review in one image, honestly. Same experience when I went, slots went cold fast and I wasn't chasing it. A floor can look decent all it wants, I judge a place by how quick they hand you your money at the cage. Got a cashout screenshot of the trip being worth the drive? That's what I'd need to believe the hype.
kev that cage line thing stuck with me too. i turned a small night into a decent cashout once at a bc spot years back, rode a dumb two-liner run, and even then i stood in that queue wondering if they hoped id give up and slot it back. gateway felt the same way last time i passed through, decent floor honestly, tables running friendly enough, but the priorities show when drinks arrive faster than your own money π
steve youre young yet, chasing a floor after it goes cold is how banks die. i done that cycle more times than i care to admit. rtp used to be fairer on the old machines, but even so i dont judge a place by one saturday. ill keep going for the cheap night out, cash out early, beat the line. if the cage is the slowest thing in the building, thats your hint not to need it at peak hour π
I remember the old slots first-hand.
Maybe I'm being dumb here but when you all say "cashing out at the cage", do you literally have to walk up to a cashier in person to get your winnings? Like no way to just get paid at the machine? First real casino trip for me is coming up and I don't want to stand in that Saturday queue looking lost π
New here, soaking it up.
yeah max, the cage is the cashier counter. you push the button on the machine, it prints a ticket, you take that ticket to the cage and they count you out in person. only way at a land-based floor like gateway. and like these folks said, on a saturday night that line crawls, so you're standing there with a ticket watching people walk back to the slots you just left π discipline test, that queue.

Kev nailed it, a floor is only as good as the exit. That cage queue on a Saturday is brutal, I stood in one there last winter long enough to do RTP math in my head just to stay sane. Here's my caveat though, cage speed and payout honesty are two different animals. Slow line hurts your patience, it doesn't touch the ticket, a printed ticket is a printed ticket whether you wait eight minutes or twenty. Volatility will chew through a session long before the line does anything to your EV. My honest test for Gateway has always been midweek evenings, floor's calmer, the cage moves, and the slots feel the same as they do Saturday, which is to say random as ever. Judging a venue on its busiest night is like rating a poker table by the drunk guy at seat three. π
Volatility > vibes.
Funny thing is the drink girl found me twice before my ticket got counted out. Watched a guy ahead of me nearly pocket his ticket and wander off, that queue can chew a win. Halifax has a point though, they counted me out fine once I got there, no stalling, no funny looks. Slow is one thing, short is another.
Hype isn't a payout.
Same experience here, drink service beat the cage every time π
But the BC licence means they counted me out fair, so worth the drive if you go early I guess

@WildWin_Live98 early is the only way tbh, Saturday night cage there had me waiting so long I nearly went back for one more spin π But yeah they counted me out clean both trips, no drama. Worth the drive for me just for the slots alone, my favourite machine on that floor treats me right π°π°π°
