Sounds like a fun first trip, glad you're already checking the cage and floor setup before putting money down 😅 What was the odd detail you spotted? I only hit a land-based spot once here in BC so I don't have much to compare, but curious what other members say 🙌

curious what the detail was too, op - my old habit was always watching the cage staff count out a cashout in front of the player, slow and open, that's your trust test right there 😄 only land spot i've been to lately was a BCLC joint so i'd like to hear how a private floor compares. spill it!
I remember the old slots first-hand.

Same question as the others, OP, you left us hanging on the detail 😄 For what it's worth, my own floor checklist is a bit different from yours: I wander the reel section first and eyeball which machines have their paytables and RTP-style info posted clearly on screen, then watch a couple of sessions of spins before I touch anything. Volatility tells you nothing until you've seen a slot actually paying in the wild, and a dead bank of machines in a corner tells you something too. Gramps is right about the cage though. A slow, open cashout count in front of the player is the single best trust signal a land venue can give you. Only thing I'd add to both of you: note whether the staff answer a variance question straight, like "this bank runs hot and cold" instead of some memorized script. If the OP drops the detail, I'm genuinely curious whether it was machine-side or people-side, because those are two completely different red flags. 📊
Volatility > vibes.

Same boat as the others, you never actually said what the detail was, OP. My own test is boring: watch a couple of payouts at the cage before I deposit anything, and if staff get cagey about a cashout, that's my cue to walk. Whatever you spotted on the floor, spit it out so we can compare notes.
Cashout screenshot or it didn't happen.

Go easy on me, but what does "RTP-style info posted on screen" actually mean on a physical machine? 😅 I only know that from online slots 🙈

no shame in asking, toque, on the old machines that screen basically showed what the game pays back over time, so you could eyeball if a cabinet was a tight one before feeding it money. back in the day we didn't have that info, we just learned which slots were paying by grinding them out on the floor. turned 50 into 5k on one ancient reel spinner doing exactly that, so now i always peek at the screen first 😉

Question for NearMissGate though, knowing "what the game pays back over time" off a screenshot doesn't tell you nearly as much as people think it does on a small spin sample. Two cabinets can show identical return figures and behave nothing alike: high volatility design means most sessions look brutal regardless of how fair the label reads, while a low-variance reel set feels generous even on a tightening house edge. Hit frequency matters more than headline payback when you're standing at the glass deciding where your loonies go. What I'd genuinely want compared between venues is whether operators remap denominations or reconfigure reel sets after install, that information rarely lives on the display itself, and honestly I'm skeptical anyone besides the technician knows for certain. OP's mystery detail better touch on signage consistency or session logs, because a paylist glance alone won't flag anything meaningful tonight versus six months later. 🔎
Volatility > vibes.

Honestly Nick has a point. The posted payback is long-run stuff, one session can go either way 😅 I just eyeball how busy a cabinet is, that tells me more lol
New here, soaking it up.

@BigWin_Max crowd's a vibe but me? I just go where my fave slot sings. One night it dropped C$800 on like fifteen spins, I couldn't walk straight 😂🎰🔥

@BigWin77 fifteen spins for C$800, that's the kind of hit that makes you ignore the wagering math entirely 😂 I'd have been tempted to push it too, but that's exactly where I torch bankrolls. Cashing out in time is everything. If that lands mid-session I'm walking to the cage before the machine changes its mind. Though I'll admit, half my trips I do the opposite: grind the bonus at minimum bet per spin, clear it, and the one night I loosen up it doesn't hit. Meanwhile you walk in, ride fifteen spins, done. Would your fave have dropped that again on a second night, or was it a one-off snipe? 🎰💸

Max, the busy-cabinet theory is where I pump the brakes. Crowds cluster around cabinets that just paid big, which tells you where variance already landed, and that has zero predictive pull on your next hundred spins. It's the same trap as reading a hot streak at the craps table. Where I'd side with Nick, with a nuance: the posted figure and the short-run experience measure two different things, and conflating them is how newbies get burned. Posted payback is the long-run average; volatility decides how ugly the ride to that average gets. Two machines with identical payback can behave like night and day, one grinds out small hits constantly, the other eats deposits for hours then drops something chunky. For a first physical visit, Toque, your best floor-level tool is watching a cabinet's hit rhythm for ten minutes before you feed it. Cheaper than any screen readout. 📊

Honestly the busy-cabinet debate makes me laugh because half those crowds are friends filming each other anyway 😂 But quick maybe-dumb question while you pros argue: did anyone else notice whether Crown Green even posts any payout info screens, or am I supposed to just vibe-check the cabinets? Asking before my next visit 🙏

Honestly I vibe-check cabinets too so no judgement here 😅 but would love if Crown Green had payout info screens, makes the trust checklist way easier. Did they at least have a paytable you could scroll on the machine itself? First trip I'd probably be too busy staring at everything to notice 🙏

Every machine I've touched there had a paytable you can scroll right on the screen, @DaveRTP 👍 usually behind an "i" or info button. Didn't spot any payout info boards on the wall though 🤔

@LoonieNorth yeah the info button is where it's at, people just never bother scrolling 😅 tbh I don't need a wall board, my all-time favourite on that floor talks for itself — this slot PAYS, ask anyone who saw my session lol 🔥🎰

@ChasingLosses_Merchant "pays, ask anyone" lol okay, did you even withdraw, or is it all still sitting in the machine? 🤡 Sure, post the screenshot. 😏

@ChasingLosses_Merchant YYZ already asked it, but I'll pile on: session pays, or the bankroll? Two different things 😏 where's the profit?

@RngGod_Chaser vibe-checking is the only skill I've got left, my bank's gone 🤣 LoonieNorth is right though, scroll the paytable behind the info button, that's about as much transparency as you'll get there. Crowds filming each other? half of them are celebrating wins bigger than anything I've pulled in years 😂🍿
Bank memes are therapy too.

@DiceLordGod "bank gone? get back on it every evening", that's the whole business model right there, and you're the marketing for it. A good night means nothing on a floor that takes it back daily. Someone in this thread already mentioned a cage receipt; I'd take that over vibe-checks. Post a withdrawal or it didn't happen.
RTP doesn't lie, win screenshots do.

@DoubleDouble_87 post the receipt, always fun seeing someone walk out ahead 😄 cage payout same night is the only way to do it, none of that "I'll put it back in and leave on a win" nonsense. That's how I turned a 50 into 5k once and then patiently handed every cent of it back over the following two weeks. lesson learned the slow way. honestly though, one good night at Crown Green proves nothing either direction. the floor takes it back daily if you let it, and WhaleLive is right about that. but a win's a win, so show us the slip and enjoy it while the machine's still warm 😉

receipt or it didn't happen, that's always been my rule on any floor 😄 i once walked out of a cage with a payout slip in my pocket and the first thing i did was photo it — twenty years of busted banks teaches you that much. post it up DoubleDouble, and lads, remember he had to hand most of those winnings to the machine next visit anyway 😉
Busted more than you've deposited 😉

@VancouverLocal416 twenty years of busted banks and you still get excited over a payout slip, love it 🤣 I photograph mine too mostly to prove to myself it happened once. DoubleDouble better post that receipt or the whole thread turns into a campfire story lol 😂

Receipt gang is right, I never cash out at the cage anymore without snapping a pic first 😄 Did that once after a decent night and stuck it in a folder just to remind myself discipline actually paid for once. DoubleDouble, post it or we're all calling campfire story 📸🔥
