McPhillips on a Friday night being packed tracks with my experience there, honestly. The cage at 11 pm with no line is a small detail that matters more than people think, nothing sours a session like queuing for a payout after a decent run on the machines. Did you find the floor gave you a fair sample on the slots, or were you mostly at the tables?

the cage story is the part every veteran nods at, eh. turned 50 into a couple grand once at an old joint years back and then stood in a line long enough to sober up twice - worst ending to a good run you can ask for. no line at 11 pm is a small mercy. the floor being that busy on a friday doesn't surprise me either, tables and machines filled out proper beats half-dead online lobbies any night of the week. nothing like hearing actual machines paying out around you instead of spinning alone at your kitchen table. i've found the floors that stay busy tend to have machines that feel like they hit different too, though maybe that's just me getting sentimental about the old ones 😉
I remember the old slots first-hand.

Funny how a no-line cage at 11 pm feels like a miracle when it's just what a cage should be. GrampsAllDay's sober-up-twice line hit home, I've ended good runs staring at a queue with C$ in chips I was scared to sit back down near. Still, a friendly cage is table stakes for any venue; I'd judge McPhillips on whether the machines paid out a ticket you could actually walk to the counter with, same night, cheque or cash, no fuss. Sounds like they did, which beats half the stories I hear.

Honestly didn't know a cage could even have no line at 11pm 😅 I cashed out my first ever win at a place here in Hamilton and stood there sweating the whole time 🙈 McPhillips sounds friendlier than mine lol

For LoonieNorth. The cage anxiety is real, and here's why it matters more than people think: when you're standing in a queue with your payout in hand, the temptation to sit back down grows every minute you wait. On a small spin sample, a hot machine can turn cold fast, so a no-line cage at 11 pm actually protects your win. Fast cash-out is worth more to your expected value than most floor perks. 📊

Total noob question 😅 when you all say "the cage" do you literally just mean the cash desk where you trade chips for bills? Thanks in advance 🙏

yep, that's the one. The cash desk at the back where you swap chips or a ticket for actual bills 😄 nothing fancy about the name, old-timers just call it the cage cause the cashier booths used to be literally behind wire mesh. and NickHighRoller nailed why it matters. turned 50 into 5k once on the old three-reelers back in the day, then stood in a cage queue for what felt like an hour - watched half that win walk back onto the floor before I ever saw a teller. the longer you wait with cash in your pocket, the more the machines start whispering at you. that's why the McPhillips thing matters: walk up at 11 pm, out in two minutes, friendly staff, done. greed never made anybody rich, but a fast cage sure helps you keep what luck gave you 😉

Quick cage at 11 pm is nice, sure, but let's not crown the place over one smooth transaction. Everyone in line was cashing out — nobody in that queue walked up broke, which tells you how the floor treated most people that night. Withdrawal proof or it didn't happen; how many of you actually walked out up, honestly?

Funny thing, I actually keep a note on my phone about cage wait times whenever I visit a live venue, because it's one of those friction points that quietly changes behaviour. WhaleLive567, your sample is honest but tiny — one Friday queue tells you who won that night, nothing about the floor's long-run pricing, and RTP on a physical machine is a multi-thousand-spin conversation. My own take: what makes a good land-based session repeatable is low friction at the exit. When the walk to the car is fast, the "one more spin" temptation has less time to work on you, and I've left Winnipeg-style floors with C$ in pocket purely because cashing out took two minutes instead of twenty. So yeah, a painless cage at 11 pm isn't proof the venue pays better, but it does lower the cost of actually banking a win, and over a year of visits that matters more than any single busy Friday. 📊

WhaleLive's point cuts both ways, a queue full of winners at 11 pm could just mean the floor was busy, not that it pays. Got a cashout screenshot to back the "everyone won" theory?

WhaleLive, you're conflating two things there, a cage queue tells you nothing about how the floor paid, because winners and break-even players both head to the cage eventually. The metric I'd actually track is hit rate on a given machine across a session, which has nothing to do with payout lineups. One smooth cashout at 11 pm just means good staffing and efficient staff, take the win.

A quiet cage at 11 pm proves the cage was staffed, nothing more. Half the people in that line were probably heading out anyway, winners and losers both cash whatever's left on the ticket. If the floor actually paid that night, someone post a photo of the ticket, otherwise it's just vibes from a busy Friday.

Both camps are half right here, but the one angle nobody's mentioned: a quiet cage at 11 pm is also a staffing decision, and it tells you the venue plans its float and coverage well. For me the real floor metric is how many players are still parked at the same machines two hours later, that's retention, which depends on the volatility of what's installed and says more about the session than any lineup ever will. 📊
Do the EV, then spin.

There's a variance nuance here that everyone's circling: a quiet cage at 11 pm proves only that the cage ran well that night, one visit is a tiny sample and tells you nothing about long-run payout behaviour. That said, friendly staff and no queue after a full Friday floor is exactly what you want operationally, so I'd call the trip a win on the experience front regardless of what the machines did. Next time note your hit rate per session and we'll have something actual to compare 📊

Was at McPhillips a couple Friday's back and the floor was buzzing, lineups at the popular slots and still had a blast. You guys worried about cage queues, I just care whether my machine pays, and mine did ngl... turned C$40 into a nice chunk before midnight 😱💰 definitely gonna be back, that place always action here ah well

mcphillips on a friday... yeah that tracks. turned 50 into 5k there once on the old-school grind, back when the reels were reels, 2 centuries later the place still pulls a crowd like that, tells you something about the floor. maxbet's got a point though, half that cage lineup is just folks cashing out either way, that's the natural rhythm of a friday night 😄 YYZTrue, the machine paying is the whole religion honestly. cage can be quiet or line out the door, doesn't change a thing about your night. me, i care about the coffee situation near the slots. Get that right and i'll sit there till the lights blur. anyone know if they still run those penny machines in the back corner or did they clear them out for the newer video stuff?

@OGKnows quiet cage at 11pm means the losers already cashed out lol. Did the winners even withdraw or just feed it back? 🤡💸
