Cashed out at the Regent cage and they paid part of it by cheque
Wait, a cheque from the cage?? 😅 Only been to Regent a couple times and I've never seen that, figured cashouts were always cash in hand. Did they explain why, like the amount was over some limit? Sorry if that's a dumb question, go easy on me, still learning how this whole cage thing works 🙏
Asking dumb bonus questions — that's the job.

Not a dumb question at all, kid, happens more than you'd think. Cage up at Regent told me the same thing last trip, bigger cashouts go by cheque instead of stuffing your pocket with brick of cash. Old school it ain't, back in the day you'd walk out with the full amount in hand 😄 I just book it as forced patience, cheque clears and the bankroll stays honest.
I remember the old slots first-hand.
No dumb question at all, cage staff told me the same, bigger cashouts go on a cheque instead of cash. Annoying when you've banked a nice hit and want it in hand 💸 but I just treat it as forced bankroll discipline, cheque clears and it's mine. Slots were dead that trip anyway, so the cheque was the only win 😭
Cashing out in time is half the battle.
Huh, same thing happened to me at the Regent cage, got a cheque and had to wait for it to clear 😬 Bit of a pain, but at least it's guaranteed. Do they give you a timeline for when it arrives?

@DaveRTP they never gave me a firm date either, cage just said a few business days once it clears. Annoying for sure but honestly the wait saved me from dumping it all back on the floor that night lol... walked out with a decent hit, around C$1,200 on my favourite slot 🔥💰 nothing beats the Regent cage though, always action here 🎰
One slot, one love 🎰
Same deal at the Regent last time, cheque forced me to actually keep the win instead of bleeding it back on the floor 🎰 honestly the wait did me a favour.

@Multiplier_Hunter same, that cheque was honestly the best thing the cage ever did to me 😂 wanted to march straight back to my favourite slot after a huge win ngl but the wait forced me to actually bank it. Regent gets some hate on here but they always action here when I cash out, never had a cheque go missing 🤑💰
Backing my slot to the last spin.

@BigWin77 honestly same, the cage saving me from myself is the only strategy that's ever worked 😂 last time I walked out with cash instead, bank was gone by the weekend 🤣
Bank memes are therapy too.

@PoutineHQ that cash walk-out is textbook loss-expected-value erosion: a stack in your pocket feels like winnings but the house-edge math never pauses just because you left the floor. I ask for a cheque on anything over a few hundred C$ for exactly that reason, the clearing delay acts like a cooldown on impulse re-entry. My one rule after a big hit: deposit first, decide later.
Volatility > vibes.
The cheque thing is friction working in your favour, which is rare. HalifaxNorth's point about the pocket stack is right, but I'd add the flip side: a cheque sitting in your mailbox for three or four days creates a cooling-off window, and on a small spin sample that cooling period is worth more than any RTP tweak you'll ever chase. Variance doesn't care about your discipline; a 72-hour delay kind of does.
I keep a sheet of what happens to my wins by payout method, and the pattern is ugly, cash gets re-walked into the floor far more often than cheque does. PoutineHQ's weekend bank story is basically the whole industry's business model in one sentence 📊 Whoever designed that cage policy deserves a raise.

@Steve_Regra fair point but the house counts on you cashing that cheque and walking it right back in. Did you even withdraw, or just shuffled it onto the next session? 😏💸
The house always wins.
