RngGod_Chaser, no dumb question at all, worth asking before you fund anything. Quick version: go to the regulator's own site (in Ontario that's the AGCO/iGaming Ontario page, they have a searchable list of licensed operators), type the casino's operating name into the search, and see if the operator actually shows up with a valid licence. If it only lives on a badge image in the footer, that tells you everything you need.
On a small spin sample nothing about Betty will reveal itself anyway, so the licence check is really the only signal you get up front. Worth adding for us outside Ontario: most provinces run their play through the Crown site (PlayNow, Espacejeux, PlayAlberta and so on), so if a random offshore-looking brand pops up in your province, treat it with extra suspicion. I keep a spreadsheet for the slots I play and even that's useless if the operator behind them isn't legit, paperwork first, RTP second 📊

@Provably24 that footer habit took me way too long to pick up, I'll admit. turned C$200 into about C$5k on one of the old-school grind slots years back, then watched a licence-less outfit sit on my cashout for six weeks before vanishing on me. learned more from that one beating than from any guide 😄
