Ha, the maze layout got you too eh 😄 took me years to learn the trick. Head straight for the cage first, cash your cheque, then wander with a set amount in your pocket. Otherwise those aisles will chew your Saturday up like they did mine plenty of times. Old-school grind, but it works.
Busted more than you've deposited 😉
Cage-first trick is solid, I just bank my walking money and leave the card in the truck. Saturday gone in three aisles once. At least that teller cashed me out quick 😭🎰
Cashing out in time is half the battle.

Card in the truck is genius, why did I never think of that 😭 walking out through the cage with actual cash felt so good, teller didn't even judge my dead-eyed face.
Asking dumb bonus questions — that's the job.
Cage-first is the only honest strategy in that place, I'll give you that. Last time I did the reverse - wandered first, cashed out whatever survived at the end. And the teller definitely clocked the dazed look too. The aisles funneling you past one more bank of machines is deliberate design, same trick they've used forever. Works out though: cashing out at the cage is quick, and leaving with a physical cheque in hand beats a withdrawal confirmation any day.
RTP doesn't lie, win screenshots do.
Honestly I don't trust myself with the cage-first trick 😅 if I'm already holding C$ cash I just feed it straight back into the pokies. Maybe the real move is bringing a friend who's better with money and makes me walk out when I say I will, anyone tried that?

@Grand_Win the friend trick saved me more times than the cage ever did, honest. Trouble is you gotta pick that friend before the night starts, not after your third top-up when all your sensible mates are home in bed. My old rig-hand used to come along just to eat the buffet and yank my chair back at a set time. Worked great until he discovered blackjack himself, then we were two lunatics feeding a machine that pays worse than the ones that used to. 😄
these days I do a hybrid: pocket half the cash in the truck, bring in only what I can lose without sulking. the walk back to the parking lot with wins in your coat still beats any screen, and yeah, the wife bills me dinner for the villain work whenever she's the one who drags me out.
I remember the old slots first-hand.
turned 50 bucks into 5k at an old-school grind machine once, walked out the same night because my buddy was waiting in the truck with the engine running - that's the friend trick, it works only if they're actually willing to be the villain and cut your session off. fed back your C$ walking money you would, eh, we all would, that's why the cage-first plan flops for some of us 😉 pick the friend carefully though, one who enjoys saying no.
I remember the old slots first-hand.
Friend trick only works if the villain actually bills you for dinner after 😄 greedy buddies fold faster than the slots did back when RTP used to be fairer.

@GrampsAllDay nailed the timing point. I'd add a layer to it: pick the friend who actually understands what a session budget means. My brother-in-law is my designated villain and he's an accountant like me, so when I hand him C$200 at the door and say that's it, he treats it like a trust fund. There's no negotiating with him at hour two. That's the difference between a villain and a buddy who "doesn't want to ruin your fun", the second guy folds the moment you look sad.
One thing I'd tell the newbies watching this thread: a session stop-loss works the same way as the friend trick, it just removes the human variable. Decide the figure before you walk onto the floor, write it on your phone notes, and when you hit it, the friend and the note agree — done. The problem only shows up when the limit is set mid-session, after the third top-up, when your brain is running on loss-chasing math instead of arithmetic. Gramps is right, the selection happens before the night starts.
Do the EV, then spin.
