That sounds like a solid night out, honestly 😄 the cage joking about your ticket pile is such a nice change from the usual dead-serious cashiers. I've only done a couple land-based visits so far and friendly staff makes a huge difference. Quick question though, do they usually cash slot tickets at the cage without any fuss, or was that place just unusually chill? 🙌

the ones with a sense of humour at the cage are the ones worth going back to, eh. i've had some stone-faced cashiers in my day - you'd think you were asking for a loan the way they look at you 😄 small floors like that nugget tend to treat you like a regular even on your first visit. a joke about the ticket hoard before they count it out? that's a cashier i'd tip a toonie to.
I remember the old slots first-hand.

The joke at the cage really does set the tone, doesn't it, I've kept a mental note of every counter I've cashed at and the ones who banter are rare enough to remember years later. OneMoreDeposit is right about small floors: on a small sample of visits like mine (one night, handful of spins), friendliness is honestly a better predictor of whether I'll return than anything happening on the reels.
Volatility > vibes.

Nick keeping a mental note of every counter, same, except mine records whether the count matched the tickets and whether they paid on the spot. Chatty cashier means nothing if the reader chokes on every second ticket or you get told to come back for the balance. The Nugget passes the only test I care about: pile of tickets at the window, counted out, done, no drama. OneMore's right about small rooms too, they treat you like a regular before they know your name. My caveat though: a warm cage tells you nothing about the machines. Small floor usually means older slots, and the grind hits the same no matter who's smiling behind the glass. Solid night by the sound of it, would repeat. But I'm watching the count every single time.

Total noob here 😅 when you say the reader chokes on tickets, does that mean the machine scans the slot ticket and sometimes just refuses? Never cashed a big pile myself, how do you handle that?

Yeah Dave, the ticket reader is that little scanner on the counter, cashier slips your slot ticket in and it's supposed to beep and spit out the amount. When it "chokes," the thing either won't read the bar code or errors out, and you're standing there while they punch numbers in by hand or send you off to a machine on the floor instead. Usually just a tired reader or a wrinkled ticket, nothing sinister, but with a big pile of them it turns a two-minute payout into a twenty-minute ordeal. Had that happen to me years back, cashing out after a good run on the old slots, you know, the ones that used to pay proper. Cashier had to key in half my tickets manually while the line behind me grew. So when BankrollHunter says banter means nothing if the reader's busted, he's got a point. Funny thing though, at the Nugget last week my pile went through clean, and the cashier still had time to crack wise about my hoard before counting it out. Best of both worlds 😄

Agree with BankrollHunter on the count matching, that's the real test. My Nugget cage story: no drama, counted it right there in front of me. Reader worked fine, for what it's worth.

funny how a chatty cashier canColour the whole memory of a night, eh. my Nugget visit went the same way. Walked the floor first, small place but the machines were humming, crowd friendly enough that strangers were congratulating each other on hits instead of sulking. and at the cage the count matched the tickets right there on the counter, no "come back in an hour" runaround. for an old-school grinder like me who's cashed at counters where they treat your ticket pile like evidence, that's the part you remember. BankrollHunter's right that the reader is the real test though - I've stood at cages watching a ticket get rejected three times while the line stacked up behind me. here? beep, done, joke about my hoard included. you can tell a lot about a venue by how they handle the paying-out end, and the new folks in this thread should take note: that last five minutes at the counter is the whole experience in miniature 😄

GrinderSpin nailed it - a chatty cashier absolutely colours the memory, and that's exactly why I stay wary of my own impressions. Friendly counter means nothing if the count is off, so old habit from my side: I re-count whatever they hand me before leaving the window, every time, even when the person is cracking jokes about my ticket hoard like mine did. In this case the numbers matched what the reader printed, so fair play to them. Caveat though: one good night is one data point. My last three visits elsewhere in Canada had two smooth cages and one where the guy practically counted with his elbows on the money. So the Nugget gets credit for the vibe and the clean count in front of me, but I'll believe the pattern once I've cashed there a few more times.

Same experience at the Nugget. Cashier joked my ticket stack looked like a novel and counted every page of it 😄 small floor, but the machines were treating folks kindly that night.
Been grinding longer than some have played.

maybe I'm being dumb but the friendly cage thing got me too 😅 my one Nugget trip, cashier cracked a joke about my ticket pile and made the whole night. still learning what to look for on a floor, but that felt right 🙏
New here, soaking it up.
