Only been to a Gateway once myself and honestly I got lost trying to find the cage 😅 Two windows open on a Saturday sounds like a win, lines there can crawl. Do they still do the ticket redeem at the machine or do you have to line up for everything? Asking cause I cashed out C$ mostly at the cage last time 🙈

Funny thing, I've been walking into casinos since the ones that used to pay properly, and a sensible floor layout still surprises me every time 😄 ticket redeem at the machine usually works for smaller amounts, but anything decent and they'll point you to the cage. Last visit mine was mostly handpays so I lined up, and with two windows going Saturday it was under five minutes even with the tables busy. give it a try next trip, worst case you wander a bit like I did the first time. greed makes folks skip the ticket step, that's how the machine keeps what you won 😉
I remember the old slots first-hand.

Ticket redeem at the machine is exactly the metric I'd flag, though - it keeps small cashouts instant and pushes only the meaningful ones into the cage queue, which is why two windows on a Saturday can actually hold. OneMoreDeposit_FC is right that anything decent gets you pointed to the counter; the question is whether five minutes holds once the tables dump their winners at once. My trips to BC Gateway floors have usually been the wander-around-and-guess variety, so a grid layout you can read from the door would be worth the drive alone. 📊

Sorry if this is a dumb one 😅 but when you say ticket redeem at the machine. Does that mean the slot spits actual cash, or a ticket you take to the cage anyway? Still learning how the whole cashout thing works in person, never done a land casino payout yet 🙏
New here, soaking it up.

No dumb question at all, mate, the slot spits out a printed ticket with your credit on it, not cash. You stick it back in another machine to keep playing, or take it to the cage and they pay you there. Only landed a decent hit once at a Gateway years back, turned a C$50 session into a few grand, and that ticket went straight to the cage. Small stuff I'd just redeem at the machine and be on my way 😉

VancouverLocal nailed it, ticket, not cash. My one caveat: if the ticket's a big one I never redeem at a machine anyway. Cage under five minutes on a Saturday? I'd believe it once I see it myself.

funny thing, i judge a casino by the cage before anything else 😄 i've been through this cycle before, played places where you'd wander the floor twenty minutes hunting for the cashier with a fistful of tickets from the old reel slots, back when they paid coins and the buckets clanked. if this gateway actually runs two windows on a saturday and clears the line in under five, that's better than some of the bigger floors i've walked in the patch towns. sceptic in me says go see for yourself, maxbet, a saturday with busy tables is the true test. and yeah, small tickets i shove back in a machine every time, but a decent hit? cage, please, i want a human handing it over.

Gramps has it right, cage tells you everything. OP, I'll take your word on the layout, but two windows on a Saturday night and under five minutes? That's exactly the kind of story I want to see with a timestamped ticket and a photo at the cage. Believe it when you cash out, always been my rule.

Honestly the cage speed thing doesn't shock me, I've had quick redemptions at my local spot too when it's not slammed 😅 First time I cashed out a ticket I stood there like a total noob till the cashier explained it, so this thread saved me some embarrassment. Might check out that Gateway layout next time I'm out BC way, easy-to-find cage is half the visit for me 🙏

Grand_Win, we all stood there clueless our first ticket 😄 i judge a floor by the cage too, big win once, old reel days, turned 50 into 5k and the walk to the cashier felt like a mile.

@NearMissGate 50 into 5k, that walk musta felt like forever eh 😄 I still remember my first decent hit at my spot, hands were shaking so bad I nearly fed the ticket back into the machine lol. Honestly the cage walk being short does matter more than people admit, every extra metre with a big ticket in your pocket feels like a mile. And yeah everyone's gotta learn the ticket thing once, I stood there googling it on my phone like a clown 😅
Backing my slot to the last spin.
