Grand Villa Casino in Burnaby is worth the trip for the floor alone
turning 50 into 5k once at a riverboat that's long gone, so forgive me if I get sentimental about a good floor 😄
Grand Villa on a Saturday night, yeah, that tracks. There's something about a busy pit you just can't get from a screen, the noise, the dealers keeping the pace, the whole thing humming. I made the drive out from Kitchener side of the country a while back... well, different coast, but same idea: a floor that's actually alive makes the session better no matter what the machines are doing. And slots these days pay nothing like the ones that used to, so at least the tables give you a bit of company for your money.
Cage story doesn't surprise me either. Been through this cycle before — waited half an hour at some places for a payout that fit in one hand. Cashier not blinking at a sad handful of chips is the most honest review a cage can get 😉 If you're out that way it sounds worth the trip.
I remember the old slots first-hand.
The cage at 11 pm with zero line is rare enough I'd frame it 🔥 my last Burnaby trip I sat on chips for twenty minutes waiting on a Saturday pit rush to clear. Floors like that pay you back in vibe even when the slots run cold on you 😭 Worth the fuel from anywhere in the Lower Mainland, no contest.
500x one day, zero the next. Classic.
Quiet cage at 11 pm is exactly why I ask dumb questions 😅 I'm still new to cashing chips at a real counter, so hearing it's that painless helps. Was the floor dead-ish by then or still humming? Asking since I'd hate to cash out early and miss the good part of the night.

Answering Grand_Win: floor was still lively past 11 when I went, mostly tables though. Cage running that smooth under BC gaming rules is a good sign, believe it when the ticket clears.
Cashout screenshot or it didn't happen.
Grand_Win, don't ever cash out early for fear of missing the party, that's backwards thinking, mate 😄 the night doesn't reward the impatient. once sat on a hot blackjack table at a place that's since been carpeted into a food court, told myself one more shoe ten times over and walked out at 2 am with a pocket that sang. didn't cash early, didn't regret it either.
as for grand villa, i've found the trick is the crowd thins a touch but the pit stays warm. Dealers loosen up, the regulars take over the rhythm, and honestly that's when the floor gets interesting. if you're new to the chip counter thing, do what i did my first time: watch a couple of guys ahead of you, hand over the chips, take the ticket or the notes, nod like you've done it a hundred times. nobody's grading you, the cashier's seen every shade of newbie there is. go enjoy the good part of the night first, the cage will still be there 😉
Busted more than you've deposited 😉
Sorry but "the night rewards the patient" sounds like how losing streaks start 😅 I'd rather cash a small win at the cage than one-more-shoe myself into nothing.
Asking dumb bonus questions — that's the job.
wildwin's got a point there, i've watched more lads talk themselves broke with "one more shoe" than i've seen saved by patience 😄 my rule after all these years: bank the win, then play with the house's chips if you're staying for the buzz. grand villa's floor was still humming past 11 last time i was through, so you can have both. Cash at the quiet cage and go back to the tables with a lighter stack.
I remember the old slots first-hand.
Honestly the "bank the win then play house chips" rule sounds great until you're three hands deep and forget which chips were which 😅 maybe I'm still learning, but walking to the cage at 11 with a handful of chips like the OP did seems like the actual win here. Patient vs impatient, don't both camps end up broke anyway? 🤔
New here, soaking it up.
BigWin_Max, you're closer to it than you think, the cage walk at 11 is the whole trophy, honestly. i've had nights where the only thing i kept was the receipt, and the old slots hit different when you actually walk out with something 😄 that cashless moment at grand villa sounds like a proper send-off, sad handful of chips or not.
Been grinding longer than some have played.
Honest question though. How do you even tell which chips are "house chips" once they're mixed in your tray 😅 I only made my first trip to a real floor recently and I'd 100% be the guy at the cage at 11 pm handing over everything like the OP did, no shame. Is there a trick to this or does everyone just learn by losing a stack? Go easy on me lol
Learning to clear wagering, go easy 🙏
haha diceLord, don't sweat it, every one of us started as the guy handing the whole tray to the cashier 😄 truth is nobody's counting chips at the cage, you hand them over, cashier sorts it out, and they didn't even blink at my sad little handful at grand villa around 11, no line, done in a minute. as for telling house chips from yours, most pits still colour-code clean enough that after a couple sessions you just know, but honestly grinder's rule is more habit than bookkeeping: you bank the win and whatever's left in play is play money, mixed or not.
for my two cents on the place itself - the floor's the reason to make the trip, buzz and all. i've busted more banks than some of you have deposited, and the nights i actually remember are the boring ones: walked out with the receipt and a cage stamp before midnight. grand villa delivers that on a saturday if you've got the patience to leave while the pit's still humming. who else has cashed out there on a late one?
I remember the old slots first-hand.
